Highly Palatable Cat Food.

Cats are as we all know, mysterious finicky creatures. Which is probably why we love them so much.

Sometimes the finickyness (is there such a word?) can become a challenge. One such challenge is when kitty’s appetite is low.

A cat that is not eating is at risk for a potentially deadly liver condition called hepatic lipidosis. This condition is more of a risk if the cat is overweight, but can also occur in cats with normal body weight.

The first thing on the agenda should be to get the cat to eat. Try to find the most palatable food you can. Some sure fire ones are Fancy Feast and Science Diet VD.

Anyone who has done some research can find that science diet is not a very good food for cats, but in a case where you need to make the cat eat, you need to feed whatever she will eat.

Some enticers to her usual food can be to add some tuna juice, bacon bits, parmesan cheese, Live a Littles cat treats, salmon bits (baked in little pieces until they crumble) or freeze dried liver.

Care should be taken to not feed a food such as tuna for very long. Besides tuna being high in heavy metals and nutritionally Unbalanced, cats can easily imprint on one food they like, thus refusing anything else.

If adding those items still does not make the food palatable for your cat, (and assuming that you have seen a vet to rule out anything that needs immediate attention) another option is to syringe feed your cat. Your cat ,may not like that very much, but it is imperative to get food into the cat. A cat that is not eating is a medical emergency.

Syringe feeding is best done with a canned food that has been put through a blender with some added water, or better, homemade broth without salt, onions or garlic. If you need to syringe feed your cat, read the labels carefully to find the food with most calories.

Switching food to a better quality brand can frequently bring out the "I don’t like my food" syndrome. An easy way to keep kitty interested in the new food is to very slowly introduce the new food by mixing a small amount of the new food into the food that kitty accepts. Then slowly, and your cat will set her own pace, add more and more of the new food, which can take days or even months!, until you have fazed out the old food completely. Until the new food becomes Highly Palatable Cat Food.
