Largest House Cat Breeds
Largest House Cat Breeds.
Some of the largest breeds of house cats is the Maine Coon which can reach almost 30 pounds. Sharing top level in size is the Siberian imported from Russia in the 1980’s and the Savannah, a hybrid of the Serval.
Servals have long been admired for their magnificent and elegant beauty. They are dressed in an elegant golden coat marked with strikingly clear black spots.
Not only is their coat beautiful, but also their body type and personality. Being an exotic cat, many states do not allow individuals to own exotic cats. Many states do not allow private ownership of exotic cats, which Serval is one, but will allow hybrids such as the Savannah.
Savannahs are smaller than the Serval, weighing in at about 25 pounds.
The magnificent Savannah does not require special facilities or diets.
The Savannah has a lot going for it. Not only is it as beautiful as the Serval, it is also very intelligent and is a frequent "talker". They create strong bonds with their owners and get along great with other pets and children.
They have a dog-like personality and often follow their owners around the house. Savannahs are the largest hybrid feline available and should be given ample space with plenty of climbing opportunities.
Anecdotally, hybrids appear to be susceptible to inflammatory bowel disease, and would do best on a home made raw diet.
The Siberian cat, a relative newcomer, is gaining popularity as a gentle and fun cat
As well as the Savannahs, Siberian Cats are KNOWN for their uncanny "dog like" personality and loyalty. They come when called by name. They love to play, they love to be a lap cat, they love other animals, they love to be affectionate, they are wonderful with children, and especially love other cats and dogs as well.
They are healthy, virtually health problem free, strong, muscular, and large boned.
Siberian cats often live long lives.
They can adapt to many climates, and living spaces. They do not shed as often as most other long haired cats. They do not shed constantly, which is common for most other cat breeds. They shed a minimal amount twice a year when going from winter to summer coat and vice versa. Their coats are extremely soft and beautiful.
Not only is the Siberian one of the largest breeds of cats, it is full of wonderful personality traits and a very healthy breed.
