Choosing A Cat Breed Quiz
Choosing a cat breed quiz.
Choosing a cat breed is a task that should have a lot of consideration and thought going into it.
When you get a cat, it is a long term relationship. Many cats live to be 20 years old, and even more. Getting a cat that has a personality you are compatible with is essential.
Begin to make a list of traits you are looking for. Many (most!) cats look very beautiful and cool and exotic, but consider their personality as well. It is the personality that you live with and bond with.
Independence
Do you want a cat that is independent, or one who is more attached to you? A cat who is aloof, or one that greets you by the door and follows you around the house?
How about a lap cat? Want a warm furry feline in your lap when you sit down? That is a wonderful feeling, but a cat that is in you lap EVERY time you sit down can be a little distracting… or not.
Want a cat that gets involved with your activities? Some cats are right there with you, as you open your underwear drawer, clean your closet, or visit the bathroom. (They say they are just curious, but the truth is they are supervising us mere mortals) Or would you rather have a cat that doesn’t want to supervise you?
Want a cat who is very loving? Some breeds are known to be loving and thrive on a lot of cuddling and kissing, and would not be happy when not getting a lot of personal, physical attention from you. Some cats can get very intent in their demand for physical affection, and would suffer if their need were not met. Do you have the time required for such a cat?
Activity levels
Some cats seem to be on the go all the time. Never missing a beat. They Zip through the house at break neck speed, climbing everything in sight, including the new draperies, jumping, leaping, getting into places you know for sure are only accessible by birds or other critters with wings…. The word PLAY is foremost in their minds…
Other cats just can’t be bothered… snoozing on the couch is their fav thing to do. Looking at life in a meditative zen kind of way, these breeds of cats don’t really care all that much about your brand new draperies.
When researching a breed, visit forums online with owners of those breeds. Listen and ask questions. You can talk to breeders as well, just keep in mind that some breeders are more interested in a sale… Visit local cat shows. That is a fantastic way to see and get a feel for the breed you may be considering.
Other considerations include breed specific problems such a coat issues, amount of kidney and heart disease.
Choosing the right cat breed for you should probably be done in a more in depth manner than just taking a cat breed quiz, even though that is a great start.
