Cat Health Bloody Stool

Bloody Stool in cats can be indicative of a number of health issues.

The cat owner usually notices the blood in stool after the cat has used the litter box.

Any blood in your cat’s stool is an indication to see your veterinarian.

When bloody discharge is only noted once and there isn't that much blood, the symptoms bloody stool in cats and minor straining may indicate a temporary case of constipation that may have righted itself.

Cats can even get hemorrhoids. However, if your cat continuously has blood in the feces or an extraordinary amount of blood, this could be an indicator of something more serious.

Some causes for bloody stools can be: Constipation, intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease just to mention a few.

Remember, early detection of a problem can mean a total cure and a lot less expenditure than allowing a manageable problem get more serious.

Whenever you notice bloody stools in your cat, be sure to carefully collect the fecal matter for examination.

Place the stool sample into a plastic baggie and take it to your vet at your earliest possible convenience. This is probably the first and easiest test that your veterinarian will administer; it will tell you if there is an infestation of most common parasites.

 

Even with negative fecal examinations, many cats with uncomplicated diarrhea are routinely treated for worms. An anti worm treatment is an easy regimen, very effective and safe for the cat.

Other therapies often include drugs to control the motility of the intestinal tract, medications that relieve inflammation in the intestinal tract and, often a special diet for a few days. This approach allows the body's healing mechanisms to correct the problem.

If you are unsure if your cat continues to have bloody stools after you discovered it once, there is a special additive that can be sprinkled onto the litter that will give a color indicator if there is blood present. This additive is also an effective way to see if there is blood in the urine.
