Cats have a large variety of great options for being carried, transported or just taken around the neighborhood on an "outing".

Small cats can be carried in a variety of carriers. Carriers with hard sides may be more comfortable and roomy during length trips in the car or by plane. Soft sided strollers are easy to carry, and frequently come with shoulder straps.

The current rage is Cat strollers.

The first question is whether your cat will like the stroller? Or will it be seen as something that you use when visiting the vet?

The truth is that most cats absolutely adore their stroller. They frequently lead their owner to the stroller so they can get taken for a walk in the neighborhood.

It is a really nice way to provide some variety to kitty, and some mental stimulation by seeing new and exciting vistas.

In out house the race is on as soon as I walk toward the stroller wearing shoes.

The cats know the rules: First cat in the stroller get to go first. As we return home after a stroll around the block, much to the amusement of neighbors, cat number 2 is waiting by the door, already in the stroller before cat number 1 has had a chance to disembark.

Did I mention they love their stroller?

Considerations for choosing a cat stroller.

If you will be taking the stroller with you on walks, as opposed to just setting it outside, make sure to get quality, quiet wheels.

Is the stroller foldable?

Does it have enough mesh windows, providing kitty with good views?

Is there a window for you to keep an eye on kitty?

Is it sturdy, safe, and made with quality?

Can it be folded for storage?

Can the carrier part be lifted from the base for easy travel by car?

How to train kitty with the new fun stroller.

First, have the stroller accessible to get the cats used to it. Allow them to enter in their own time. Place a catnip toy, or a few treats in the stroller.

Once the cats have gotten used to the stroller, and may like to sleep in it, (it can help to place the stroller in a place where they like to sleep) start to wheel it around the house, allowing the cat to depart when they choose to.

Once they are OK with that, begin by taking the stroller outside in the evening or early morning when it is more quiet.

Do this gradually. Start on your drive way or patio, and then start with short trips.

A great way to get started is to put bird seed on the ground, and the stroller close by. Much fun will be had…

Once you train your cat with the stroller at their own pace, your cats will think that getting a cat stroller is the best money you ever spent.
